About
My name is Ori and I was born in Jerusalem, Israel, in 1981. I have always had a passion for food which started early in my childhood. My Mum owned a delicatessen in the German quarter of Jerusalem, where I would go everyday before and after school, spending hours at a time watching her slice the cheese, or bake the bread!
On leaving school I completed my 3 years military service before getting a job in a well known restaurant, right in the heart of Jerusalem. I started as a waiter and moved up to shift manager. At that point I knew I was going to have a future in the food business!
I left the restaurant to travel in south america for a year and then 4 years ago I followed my dream of coming to cook in London!
At first, I joined the Israeli airline company. It meant I could save money to go to the prestigious cooking school, The Cordon Bleu. Every shift was hard work knowing that I wanted to be chefing, I wanted to be working with food! Luckily we had a small kitchen where I would cook for my colleagues everyday, practicing old dishes and testing out new ones.
After a couple of years of saving I joined the The Cordon Bleu where I studied a few days a week. Only then did I truly understood what cooking is all about; the chefs were gods, masters of their domain! A year after starting I had completed all three courses which meant I could eventually quit my job and enter the world of chefing, full time!
Working as a pastry chef since last February !
In this blog I invite you to try my new and old recipes influenced predominantly by my Mediterranean background, mixed with my French training! Do let me know your thoughts!
